Gran Hotel Lar Seville

April 27th, 2009

A good night’s sleep and a hearty breakfast are a great way to start off your journey into the sights and sounds of Seville, the cultural capital of southern Spain. You can enjoy both from Gran Hotel Lar, which provides its guests with comfortable accommodation and a buffet of flavorful selections in a classic Andalusian setting.

All 137 guest rooms are furnished with air conditioning, direct-dial telephone, a mini bar, safe, satellite TV, iron, hairdryer, and pipe-in music. There’s a bar and lounge with large sofas where you can hang out for snacks and drinks, and internet access is available at the hotel lobby. Six spacious business rooms with coffee, cocktail and banquet facilities can accommodate conferences and other events with up to 300 attendees.

The Gran Hotel Lar is located in the Santa Cruz area. You can walk 2 minutes to the bus stop or 10 minutes to the Santa Justa train station. Buses and trains will take you to major attractions in Seville, including the must-see Cathedral and Alcazar.

Sevillan cuisine is based on ingredients from surrounding provinces, including seafood from Cádiz, olive oil from Jaén, and sherry from Jerez de la Frontera. Its main gastronomical attraction is the tapas – hot or cold appetizers made with olives, cheese, fried squid, anchovies or sardines heavily flavored with garlic and chillies. Several tapas bars are located in the vicinity of the Cathedral and Alcazar, as well as cafes that serve sinful patisseries and helados.

Among the sites to visit in Seville are the Giralda Tower, the colossal Cathedral of Seville, the Royal Alcazar, Archive of the Indies, Plaza de España, the Torre del Oro, the University of Seville, and the Town Hall. Parque Maria Luisa, the Alcázar Gardens, the Gardens of Murillo, the Gardens of Catalina de Ribera, and La Isla Magica are also major tourist attractions.

If you don’t mind huge crowds, plan your visit to coincide with Seville’s two famous festivals: Semana Santa (Holy Week) and Feria de Abril (April Fair). Seville is known for its exquisite Lenten processions and vigorous fair festivities featuring colorful casetas and flamenco dresses.
